The Men With Strong Arms

An Ode to the working class men of the Industrial Revolution.
The Men who built the railways
Men who built the roads
Men who worked the mine-shafts
Ten miles down below
Men who worked the shipyards
Sailed the seven seas
The hours that they laboured
Would cripple you and me

The Men who built the Railways
Men who built the roads
Didn’t ask too many questions
About which way they should go
Tunnel any mountain
Build a bridge across the sea
And the hours that the laboured
Would cripple you and me

The Men with strong arms
Hold up the sky
For you and I

Men who worked down the mine shafts
Ten miles underground
Where daylight was a memory
And fear came sneaking ‘round
They worked the face of darkness
As darkness dusted their face
With their grave made out of coal
Our fires their lives grace

Men who worked in the Shipyards
With iron in the their blood
Where ships sailed out of dry-dock
For the Queen and the Kingdom-hood
The Men who sailed them out to sea
For War Fish and Oil
Didn't ask for any medal
Nor a shouldered sword for toil

The Men who built the railways
Men who built the roads
Men who worked the mine-shafts
Ten miles down below
Men who worked the shipyards
Sailed the seven seas
The hours that they laboured
Would cripple you and me
